It's time for part two of my chakra series!
This week, I'll be addressing the sacral chakra, or the second chakra. The sacral chakra is associated with emotional body, sensuality, and creativity – it is flowing and flexible, and associated also with the water element.
The sacral chakra is positioned about three inches below the navel, at the centre of your lower back. It is associated with the lymphatic system – transportation. Opening your sacral chakra allows you to feel the world around you – it is motivated by pleasure and is the driving force for the enjoyment of life through the senses. Thus, it is incredibly important in the foundation of our feelings of well-being.
When your sacral chakra is imbalanced, we can feel dependency on others, controlled by emotions, or the opposite – feeling out of touch and numb. It is a sense of feeling stuck – physically or in a particular feeling or mood. As the chakra that is most connected to water, spending time by the ocean or in a hot bath can be extremely beneficial.
Poses that I like to balance the second chakra are hip openers and forward folds – upavista konasana to stimulate the abdominal organs and strengthen the spine, cow face pose to balance energy flow, and boat pose to activate and stimulate energy through the second chakra.
Foods to balance the sacral chakra include most sources of healthy fats – I eat plant-based so I won't include fish here, but nuts, seeds, avocados and oils are all excellent sources of fats to balance the sacral chakra. Even taking the time to indulge in some baking to balance your chakra could be beneficial!
